She has more than 20 years of experience managing projects and people, with significant expertise in producing online and end-user documentation and maintaining schedules and priorities for development and other teams. Marie is a former trainer and director of client support, with high-level communication skills and a reputation for achieving client satisfaction. She is known for her high level of attention to all details.

Brenna Mayer, Developmental Editor

Brenna has more than 16 years of editorial and writing experience. She developed her skills in the medical publishing field, with rapid advancement to managing editor of NursingCenter.com, the world's largest website for nurses. She has managed high-profile print, software, and online products, working closely with authors, publishers, community organizations, and marketing companies. She has managed projects ranging from marketing materials for a community organization to a "survival guide" for practicing physicians. In working with a variety of clients, Brenna has established a reputation for exceptional organization, communication, creativity, and interpersonal skills.

David Gerratt, Designer

After growing up in a print shop, David embarked on a career in design and has worked as a designer, print production manager, and graphic arts trainer in the US, Europe, and Africa for more than 20 years. With a passion for “promoting the good work of others,” David’s company DG Communications has helped create materials for more than 200 nonprofit organizations including Oxfam America, the Union of Concerned Scientists, the Conservation Law Foundation, Farm Aid, and the American Friends Service Committee, as well as a vast number of academic institutions and commercial enterprises. Pen and Press collaborates seamlessly with David on many client projects, including a growing number of websites.

Betsy Gitelman, Technical Writer

Betsy has 25 years’ experience writing and editing in a wide range of industries and formats. She’s written for television, high-tech marketing, software documentation, and research-based health publications, and developed a software curriculum and taught it to elementary school students. A seasoned technical writer with experience in online courseware, end-user documentation, and tutorials, she has also created and executed usability tests to ensure her documents’ effectiveness. Betsy is passionate about editing, to which she brings both a strong sense of logic and her creative talents. Her essays have appeared in The Boston Globe Magazine.

Jeanne Washington, Editor

Jeanne was an editor at a daily newspaper for 10 years before beginning a freelance career in 1998. She has worked at all stages of the editorial process, with an emphasis on line editing, copyediting, and proofreading. Her subject specialties include education, medicine, and finance, and she especially enjoys working with beginner writers and non-native English speakers. She is an expert in the major editorial style guides, including Chicago Manual of Style, Associated Press Stylebook, AMA Manual of Style, and Publication Manual of the APA. Jeanne is experienced in the creation of in-house style guides. She is an editor with LifeWire, a New York Times company that provides lifestyle content to web publishers.
